Surprisingly good!

I just bought some of those Oscar Meyer fast franks.....ya know the ones where the hotdog comes with the bun that you just put them in the microwave for 30 seconds. I was very surprised at how good these were! The buns weren't stale at all! So for all of you who like hotdogs, I would highly recommend these!

I finally found the yarn I have been looking for! I had looking no less than 6 times for this certain yarn I had been hording for a blanket. I made one last ditch effort to locate it. Of course it was in the first place I looked a zillion times......it is now safely in my possession awaiting to become a blanket:)

People say the weirdest things.....

My friend Donna challenged me to update my blog, so here it is.

Today I am at a local discount store standing in line to pay for my purchases. Ahead of me is a mom, dad and son around 8. The son did something that caused the mom to reprimand him and that dad says to the mom and I quote" Don't talk to him like that, mothers have no business in raising kids".

Think about that.

OH MY!

Has it really been a month since I posted last?? Wow! How time flies! Well, things are busy around here as usual. Holidays, shopping, laundry, ya know the stuff.

I did drag the man out of bed at 5:30 this morning to go to AC Moore to utilize their 60% off coupons. I scored a swift and ball winder! I'm pretty happy about that.

Now is the boring part, we are doing house hold chores....hauling wood, changing the oil in the cars ect...oh well, I guess it must be done!

MMMMMMMMM Onion rings.....

The man and myself were out and about tonight and ran across a Dairy Queen! I NEVER see Dairy Queen anymore....so of course we HAD to stop. What is a must when dining with the queen??? Onion rings! Let me say, they were as good as I remembered......

On the knitting front, I have a pair of socks I am nearly finished with in honor of socktoberfest...but I can't post pics til the recepient receives them:) No hints...it will give it away!

I have a few projects I really need to finish for Christmas, but dont' think I will get around to them....so I'm thinking they will be new years gifts! Hey, in my book, a gift any time of year is good!

We found the weirdest thing in our yard yesterday. We had a mountain of firewood that needed to be moved (about 3 cords worth) and at the bottom of the pile, there were 2 coal black toads! Yes folks, I said coal black! I wish I would have gotten pics of them, but sadly, I didn't...so you'll just have to take my word.....I nearly had a heart attack! I must have come very close to picking them up several times. If anyone else has ever seen black toads, please let me know!

Well, its time to finish up the dinner dishes that I lazily left in the sink after supper...

SLACKER!

Not really, but I've been so busy with life that blogging seems to fall to the end of the list daily! So I told myself, you gotta post today...

Not much on the knitting front. Just a few odds and ends I need to finish up.

The weather has finally caught up the calander....its in the 60s today. When the weather turns colder, that means that the dogs start to drop their summer coats even more. It is a constant battle between me and the dog hair!

I'll post pics of my latest knitting endevors as soon as they are finished!

Finished socks update

I successfully washed my Hedera socks made out of the Cherry tree hill yarn. Love the yarn, love the color, can't say too much about the smell of it though. I washed them the other day and when I took them out of the washer, they smelled like a wet sheep! PU!!! So now they are dry, but still have a slight sheepy smell...humm..wonder how I am gonna get that out???

On another note, I dyed some yarn hastily last night to make my niece a pair of socks in the next 2 weeks. I had to end up dying the burgandy part of the yarn twice, cuz it sucked up the color so fast, it didnt' get to the center! I am pleased with the coloring so far. It is hanging out to dry in what I call my yarn tree ( the neighbors think I"m crazy) and hopefully it will be dry enough to ball up this evening. That would be great!

Well, I need to hem some pants for the man now cuz I promised...promises promises....

Finally finished!

I finally finished my 3rd pair of hedera socks last night! I love them so much I wore them to work today! So satisfying to know you made your own footwear:)

I"ll try and post a pic later on today...but first, the lawns must be mowed! We have been slackers and haven't maintained them in a couple weeks! For shame!

I guess its about time I posted right??

Not alot of knitting going on lately. I am still working on my hedera in the cherry tree hill yarn. I hope to finish those off in the next couple of days. It seems my knitting time gets cut short these days. I usually get about 30-45 minutes a day....oh well, I"m thankful for that!

The air is finally cooling off a bit around here. I"ll be happy to see fall!

On the literature side of life, I am reading a fabulous book called "The book thief". I highly recommend it! Technically it is considered a youth book, but I'm really digging it!

Dont' you love a nice clean dresser drawer???

After several weeks of procrastination, I finally cleaned out and organized my dresser drawers. When the floors were installed, we basically just threw the furniture and clothing back into place (Kinda). I finally got sick of having to dig for socks and underwear each morning. I feel very satisfied with my accomplishment:) Now onto tackling the closet...one step at a time.....

On the knitting front, I have started "embossed leaves socks" from Interweave Knits Winter 2005. One of my knitting pals has already done this pattern and gives it high kudos, especially the heel. I just started the ribbing, and I'm anxious to see how it turns out!

I finally started something....

After many days of knitting nothing, I finally decided to make some more swiffer pads to use up my left over cotton yarns. I call them Franken-swiffers.....but alas, I can't post pics right now. I dont' know how to load the pics (that is another story in itself...) But I will as soon as I am able. I now have enough home made swiffer pads to last me a week:)

I also found a great lace scarf patter that doesnt' require teeny tiny needles and skinny yarn. Its called column of leaves ( stupid blogger is messing up my links...I"ll have to post the site later to the pattern). I am using the Dream Baby I intended to use for socks, but decided the scarf would look much better in it. Again, same situation, as soon as I figure out get the pics off my flashcard, I"ll post!

Whew! Glad to be back into the knitting groove:)

Not a thing on the needles

Can you believe it? I don't have one blessed thing on the needles at the moment. I was trying to knit baudelaire from Knitty, but ran into a million roadblocks....I skipped a line in the pattern, I didnt' know how to do the short row, and finally, the foot was about an inch too long. So I said forget it! I just frogged the whole darn thing!

This has by far been the most unsuccessful two weeks of knitting I have ever had!

So right now I am at a loss at what to do.....any suggestions?????? I'm intersted in lace patterns right now.....

Pantech c300 phone cozy pattern:

Materials needed:
1 set of size 1 us dp needles
a small amount of left over fingering yarn

Cast on 40 stitches. Divide over 3 needles.
K2 P2 for approximately 15 rounds.
Knit every round for approx 30 rounds.
Kitchner stitch up the bottom!

Ho Hum

Life has been ho hum lately. My recent knitting endevor has been a flop. I need to get some help before I can move on! I thought I was doing so well...anyway....I did start another project in the meantime.

I finally broke down and got a new cell phone on Friday. It is the new Pantech c300. It is smaller than a credit card...that is why I love it so! I am really happy with it. The only down side is I had to get my own cell phone plan, and all of that stuff that goes along with it.....but I do have a new phone.

The weather is getting cooler in the evenings here, but still pretty hot during the day. I am looking forward to fall.

I really really really need to start putting all of the stuff back in their correct places since the floors are done, but I just can't seem to get the gumption....maybe I"ll start today.....but the dogs need a bath, I need to do laundry, and the zillion other things that pop up during the day.

I will try and get my pics hosted so I can start posting them on here again! I promise!

I guess I should post an update....

Life is slowly getting back to normal around here. The main furniture is all moved back into place, the new drapes and curtain rods have been purchased ( hopefully they will be hung up tonight), and the floor is being enjoyed. We have yet to choose and put up new baseboards, but then again...who needs them??? (I"m hoping to have them up before christmas...that isn't too lofty of a goal)

I hope to post some pics soon. My internet connection has been kinda bad lately, thus the reason for no pics.

Here is a pics of the new flooring! We absolutely love it! Watson is showing how much he likes it and Ramsey well...hes not much for pictures. The house still kinda looks like a tornado hit it, but other than that, things are great!

Finally finished!!!

I am SO VERY HAPPY to announce that the flooring job is completed! The crew did a an excellent job and it looks awesome! I'm excited that the hard part is over and we can enjoy the new floors. The house is still a mess, but we'll get to that in time. I hope to post new pics of the floor in the next few days when I dig myself out.

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of spending time with my knitting pals at the beach. Well, technically we were staying near the beach, but never went TO the beach. Our main goal was to hit all of the local yarn shops along the way. We had a great time shopping for new yarn and dreaming of new projects. One yarn shop even had a little yorkie mascott named Cinnamon....so cute!

On the knitting front: I am nearly finished with my second hedera sock. I messed up a couple of rows, but I"m so close to being finished, I just pressed onward. Sometimes you have to weigh the fact that not everything is perfect.

We're almost there!

As we speak, the crew is back to work on the floors. The entire house is about 85% finished. I expect it will be completed by Saturday at the very latest! I'm so incredibly happy on how it has turned out so far and I'm even more excited we didn't try to do it ourselves! It would have looked aful if we tried to do it! Our crew is great! I'll post pics when the job is completed....just don't look at my messy house.

Floor update

As of right now, almost all 3 bedrooms have been refloored! Yeah yeah yeah! By the end of the day, the hall should be finished as well. The goal is to have 1/2 the living room done tomorrow and the other half on Friday! Whew! I'm glad we are having this done cuz it will be sooooooo worth it not to have the nasty green carpet anymore.

Impulse buy

Do you ever just have to buy yarn cuz you know you will put it to good use sooner or later??? Well, today was one of those days. I was at Joann Fabrics and at the check out counter, they had a basket of Patons Cha Cha yarn for .30 cents a skein! Yes boys and girls! THIRTY CENTS A SKEIN! After I recovered from the initial shock of the price, I quickly grabbed up 5....Doesn't he look thilled to be posing with my yarn??? He looks evil, but I swear he is soooooooo sweet!

Prep is now finished!

All of the bloodd, sweat and tears of preping the house is now over! We finished about 8 p.m. yesterday. Now we are waiting for the workers to show up! Whew! I"ll be glad when all of this is over!

Are we done yet???

For the past 14 days ( or has it been longer) the man and I have been working on getting the house ready for the new flooring as most of you know. Today the remaining furniture (bed, dressers, desk ect) were removed from the bedrooms and stacked neatly in the living room. The living room now looks like a warehouse! Stuff is everywhere! It is nearly piled to the ceiling! We look like rats in a maze trying to manuver all of our belongings.

We still have to rip the carpet off the stairs, paint the stairs, remove vynal by front door, remove molding and empty the trashcans of all of the carpet tack strips and baseboards! Whew! The man and I believe that it will all be worth it in the end.......I sure hope so!

All of the materials we need are finally in our possession. The man and friend went and picked up the rest of the 27 boxes and misc materials we needed. It took a car and a truck to accomplish this.

Since it is nearly midnight, I should get some sleep....tomorrow will be here before we know it:)

The list update

I accomplished most of the to list from yesterday and added some more stuff today. We did empty one of the 3 bedrooms and tomorrow a friend is coming over to help the man move the big items such as the bed, dressers, ect. I had the job of picking up a portion of the flooring! I picked up 27 of the 54 boxes of flooring! Whew! My poor truck had a harder time that usual making its way home under the weight of the boxes. The man still has to pick up the rest before the install on Monday.

On the list this afternoon:
1-Pull up more staples
2-Prime floor
3-Clean out 2 closets and under 1 bed
4-Pull out some clothes for next week while I still know where they are!
5-Maybe even knit a few rows on my second Hedera sock...we'll see

1- Paint banisters
2-Pull out carpet staples from floor
3-Paint walls where baseboards were removed by the man
4-Move carpet rolls to curb for trash pick up
5-Do laundry
6-Rearrange my kitchen so I can find the sink and counters
7-Unload bedrooms so carpet can be taken out
8-The most important one: try not to lose my sanity.

Update: 1:12 p.m.

I have completed # 1, 2, 4, 5, plus brush dogs, pick up yard (those of you with dogs know what this means)

Banister love

Here is a picture of the banisters that I primed yesterday and plan on painting after lunch. That is Scout sitting on the landing. I can't wait to get rid of that nasty green carpet and vynal! Yuck! You can also see my blood red door:) I love that!

The second pic is of ( from left to right) Scout, Watson and Ramsey. I couldn't get Reese to hold still enough to get his picture...the dufus! The banisters were a very dark brown wood that really sucked the light out of the entry way. I used Kilz primer ( 2 coats and 4 hours time) to get them ready to paint.

We didnt' get a chance to rip out the carpet in the hall or closets cuz we ran out of time last night! Hopefully today that will get accomplished. Wish us luck!

Hello boys and girls, I thought I would show you the one Hedera sock I finished while waiting for the paint to dry on the floor ( yes I said floor). Watson so graciously let me photograph him with the sock. ( He looks upset cuz he has to stay in the basement while I paint upstairs...poor puppy) I love the way the yarn coloring turned out. This pair of Hedra are gonna be a zillion times better than the first pair! I know the pattern by heart, therefore less mistakes and no more exaustion knitting (I learned my lesson the first time) The lace is actually even! I love knitting lace. I think my next project will be a lace shawl...hummmmm that sounds a bit overwhelming...we'll see

Back on the home improvement front:
* Today I finished removing the staples from the living room and dining room sub flooring and have painted primer ( the man thinks this is a good idea )
* My next task is to paint the banister.....the man doesn't really like the idea, but I love it! So I'm gonna go for it! I"ll post pics later of my progress.
* We plan on taking up the carpet in the hallway and closet tonight and tomorrow I will repeat the process of removing the staples and priming the floor.
* Whew! I'm tired just thinking about all of it, but it must be done!

EWWWWWWW

Boy, this home remodeling stuff is hard! The man and myself spent a romantic evening ripping up the carpet and picking out staples and nails til around 11 p.m. last night. Who knew all of that dust, dirt and dander lived under the carpet? We should have our new bamboo flooring next week. The hallway and bedrooms still need the carpet removed.....yipee. I will try and post some pics of our work later today.

On the knitting front, I did finish my hand dyed hedera sock...I just need to stitch up the toe! Yeah! At least one project got completed ( one sock anyway)

Yarn update

Here is my hand dyed yarn in action. I decided to make another pair of Knittys Hedera. By sheer luck, I made this yarn self striping.....Kind of....

But anyway, I love the way it turned out. The quality of the yarn is great (I do wish it was super wash), the color took well, and I enjoy the pattern. What more could I wish for?

Dying to knit

Here is some sock yarn I dyed with easter egg coloring. Its a combo of denim blue and grass green. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I bought the undyed yarn from Knitpicks in the sock weight. This is the first time I had dyed yarn with egg dye, usually I use Koolaide. I think the egg dye was stronger than the Koolaide. Anywho, I'm happy with the outcome. ( I used the microwave method.)

I'm finally finished!

Here is the crocheted baby blanket I have been working on for about a month now. It is for our friends baby that is due next month ( I think)

The pattern is free by lionbrand yarn. I can't seem to get the links to work right now for the pattern. Sorry! Its the hooded baby blanket on their website. It goes pretty fast. I used red heart super saver yarn in frosty green. I made it as baby friendly as possible! I didnt' follow the pattern exactly, just basically the stitch pattern. I opted to not add the hood too. I'm pleased with how it turned out.

You can see 3 of our 4 dogs in the pic. Ramsey is to the left, Reese in front of the chair and Scout in the back right. They keep me company while I knit or crochet......best company ever ( don't tell the man I said that)

Color Wheel of Insanity
Does this look like a piece of modern art? A pre schoolers attempt as an interior designer? Or maybe just perhaps my attempt at choosing a new color to paint my living room? If you chose the third one you are correct. These are the colors the DH and myself debated over for the past 4 days. We finally chose the bottom two (the horizontal ones). The very top one was too pea soupy looking, the left one, too bright, and the right one, too english gardeny, and the last two are just right! So my new mission in life is to get the living/dining room painted before the new floors are installed! Can I accomplish my mission in time? Stay tuned for details!

They are finally finished!!!

I have finally completed the second Hedera! You can see how I messed up the last few rows on the right sock. That is what I get for trying to finish up while I was half asleep.

Overall I love the pattern. I plan on making more in the future. I would highly suggest this pattern as your intro if you are new to lace knitting.

Just in time for summer

I thought that these wool fingerless mittens would be great for the 90+ degree weather we have been having:) Just kidding. I made these as part of the Project Spectrum.

Since I have finished this pair, I have misplaced the pattern. As soon as I find it, I will make sure and post the link. I thought that pattern was very well written and a breeze to follow. It only took me a couple of evenings to finish the pair.

I will be tucking these away for the next snowfall we get in oh.....4-6 months! Happy knitting:)

Road trip

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of going on a road trip to Williamsburg VA. I had a great time soaking up the history and sites. But as we all know, when one is a knitter, you gotta hit the local yarn store! It is a must! They have a great store in the area called "Knitting Sisters". The store is bright and bursting with huge selections of yarns, needles and patterns. I was impressed with the vivid display of colors and textures. I picked up some Dale of Norway cotton yarn and a Fiber trends hedgehog pattern.
I highly recommend checking them out if you are in the Williamsburg area.

Photocraft

I am proud to show off my one finished Hedera sock from Knitty. It took me a few times to get started, but after I got the hang of the pattern, I loved it! I used Dale of Norway Baby Ull in pepto bismal pink. Unfortunately I only had one skein of it!! OH well, I still love the sock. You can see my knock off croc in the picture as well. (Those are the best shoes ever invented.) Can you tell I like pink??? Thanks Kim for all of your helpful tips!

Fly-days Photo

Here is my toad Wort with his friend Scrat. They enjoy hanging out and shooting the breeze. Scrat liked Wondas hat so much he asked to borrow it. (pattern for the Wonda hat coming soon!) Wort liked Wonda's hat, but not enough to wear it.

Itty Bitty Socks

Socks have to be one my absolutley fav thing to knit...big, little, medium size, it doesn't matter! I love socks! Here is the latest pair I finished for a baby gift. I am still tweeking the pattern and hope to post it soon, so keep checking back! This pair will probaby fit a new born to 8 weeks . The yarn is the leftovers from my Knit Picks( see the first entry). Out of two balls of Knit Picks simple stripes, I was able to get 1 pair of womens size 6, 1 pair kids size 3 and 1 pair of infant socks! Wow!

On another note.....I was going to take some new pics of the baby robins that live in the nest under my deck, but when I got home, they were GONE! Wow, they flew the coop early! If they return, I will try and take some new shots.

Toaday's Fashion Show

Here is the ever so stylish Wonda (Worts girlfriend) wearing her new hat. I tried snakeskin, but it scared her to death, so I went with a natural fiber: Wool. As you can see, she looks gorgeous from any angle! Wort seems to admire her long legs.

Please note: I did not capture Wort and Wonda to model my new collection of toad fashions. They are both wild amphibians that willingly visit to get at the mosquitos and have their images taken.

Needle Goodness

I just had to show off the needle case I made for my friend Kim. She provided the groovy fabric and let me have creative liberty over the design of the case. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out:) It will hold several sets of circs and dps and folds up into a neat little compartment. I'm so happy with how it turned out, I think I will have to make one for myself!

Traveling Gnome

This is Steve the gnome. He was a birthday gift from my friend Catherine. Recently Steve went on an adventure to Williamsburg Va. He enjoyed the historic homes and even made a few new friends. I will post more of Steves adventures in the future

A little piece of spring

I have more squatters that live under my deck: it is a family of robins. Today I discovered the babies! There are three voracious baby robins. I will hopefully get more pics of their growth to share with you all.

Toaday's Events

Here is a picture of our summer squatter: Wort the Toad. He lives in the drain pipe. He pays no rent and he eats our bugs for free. Wort may have a panhandling license, but I'm not sure. Wort has a girl toad that shacks up with him for the summer, but she has not appeared yet. Wort is a stud toad (I'm just going on rumors). Enjoy Wort. Love the Wort.

Warning: Wort may cause warts. I hope to knit Wort some clothes before winter hits so he may take them back to his winter drain pipe (where ever that might be) Check back soon to see Wort modeling his winter collection.

So I started this blog ...

I was compelled by peer pressure. Well, maybe not MY peers, but does it really matter? I thought I would start out by showing off some of my handiwork. My model is Watson. He is wearing a pair of socks made out of Knit Picks simple stripes in Sweet Tarts. Socks are one of my favorite things to make. Socks are not one of his favorite things to wear. But he is the oldest and slowest of our four dogs, and therefore the most easily caught. You probably will see more of him, but less of him smiling.
